Jesule de la Tomasa: The Wild Soul of Flamenco

Jesule de la Tomasa was born in Jerez de la Frontera, in the Santiago neighborhood, considered the birthplace of flamenco. Raised in a gypsy family with a strong flamenco tradition, his name comes from the Manuel Torres legacy, and his mother, Tomasa, inspired his career. From a young age, Jesule showed his talent, beginning his flamenco journey at just 10 years old with the children’s group Los Niños de la Calle Nueva.

Career

In 1994, Jesule took the leap into the professional world, working with flamenco masters like Antonio el Pipa, Diego Carrasco, Moraito Chico, and Paca y Manuela. This period was crucial for his artistic development and allowed him to forge a unique voice that would characterize him throughout his career.

In 1997, he recorded his first album “Jerez Joven”, a work that reflected his connection to the flamenco roots of Jerez and his vision toward modernity. By the year 2000, he moved between Sevilla and Barcelona, where he began performing in flamenco tablaos and experimenting with new musical styles such as funk, rock, and jazz, blending his unique rhythmic style with other genres.

Over the years, his career has been a constant evolution, marking his presence on important stages around the world and collaborating with major artists like Raimundo Amador, Niña Pastori, Josemi Carmona, Pitingo, Tomasito, Ricardo Moreno, and Farruquito, among others.

Musical Style

Jesule’s music is characterized by its wild instinct and brutal power. His style is primitive, driven by a unique energy that is especially evident in his live performances. His ability to merge flamenco with other genres like funk, rock, and jazz has allowed him to create a modern sound while always respecting the roots of flamenco.

In addition to his work as a singer, Jesule stands out for his guitar skills, which have allowed him to experiment with complex and energetic rhythms, earning him a reputation in the flamenco world as an autodidact musician.
